This highly respected local government gapyear scheme has now been running for over 17 years and is approved by French Education Nationale with whom it works in close collaboration.

Julie Legrée, who is the resident British project co-ordinator and has been so since 1990, is responsible for the recruitment, training and support of the four British students selected to teach English language and culture in schools in north Vendée, France.
Over the years the project has expanded to include 29 primary schools and goes from strength to strength due to the determination, hard work and generosity of all involved.Over 70 students have already completed this fulfilling course.
Local French host families, keen to learn about British culture, welcome these young Francophiles into their homes.
Students benefit from this unique opportunity to experience living in France within a typical French family environment and improve drastically their command of the French language.
