Throughout the course of this Gap Year students will be given the unique opportunity to live with three different local host families. These are carefully vetted by the project co-ordinator, Julie, to try to ensure that students are placed with families who will provide the best experiences to ensure a fulfilling year in France. The living arrangements are structured as follows:
As part of a contractual agreement signed by both the stagiaire and each family, full board and lodging including own bedroom is provided.
Some families may be hosting a British stagiaire for the first time or may have opened their homes many times before, but whichever families you are allocated, it is by living daily life with them that you will discover the real essence of French and Vendéen culture. You should be aware that the families do not receive any financial payment for hosting and that their incentive is merely to welcome a British guest within their home and broaden their cultural awareness. Therefore, your relationship with them requires tremendous effort to fully integrate into their lives, giving them new experiences as well as receiving them. Every host family will most likely lead a very different life, and whether or not you get the opportunity to partake in weird and wonderful activities or simply experience a more mundane side to French life, you will leave each family with memories, and perhaps friends, that you will never forget.
